Online peer support

Introducing our Virtual Hubs

Living with sight loss or being the parent of a child with a visual impairment can be very isolating at times.  But it can make a huge difference to meet others and feel listened to and supported by those who truly understand.

We have a range of virtual hubs.  Each is a volunteer-led online community for people living with sight loss across our regions. These groups will offer a chance to connect with others in a similar situation, in a positive and supportive space.

Each group will meet regularly via Microsoft Teams and will be facilitated by a volunteer who has lived experience of sight loss themselves.  Once you’re signed up, there’s no need to book a session and there’s no obligation to attend every time. We simply wish to provide as many opportunities for social connection as we can.

Our first groups are:

Young Adults (18 to 30 years)

Working Age (25 to 65 years)

Parent Support (Parents of visually impaired children up to the age of 25).  Meets fortnightly on Thursdays at 7.30pm, starting from 28th November.

University Students (over 18s, studying at Level 4 or above).  This group will meet on a Wednesday at 7pm, starting in January.

If you are interested in signing up for any of our online peer support groups, please contact us, stating which Hub you are interested in.   You can also email us on info@sightsupportwest.org.uk or call our Bristol office on 0117 322 4885

Each group will only get started once we’ve got a Volunteer Facilitator on board. Could this be you? If so, please get in touch with our Volunteer Coordinator.

We may develop further virtual hubs in the future, depending on demand, so if you’ve got any ideas for specific interest areas, please let us know.

This project was made possible by a grant from the Quartet Foundation.
